Myanmar Consumers Union conducted Training of Trainers on Consumer Education for 3 Days at Malikha Hall, Action Aid Myanmar in Yangon, on 17-19 August 2019. President of Myanmar Consumers Union, Prof. Dr. Mar Mar Kyi gave an opening remarks and the participants introduced about themselves. U Maung Maung, Secretary of MCU, presented “Role of MCU in Myanmar Consumer Affairs”, and “Consumers and Consumer Protections”. He also shared the important role of Consumer Education. Joint-Secretary-3 of MCU, U Win Min, followed the session about the Ethical Business. Then, Question & Answer of morning session opened for the participants.
In afternoon session, Dr. Daw Myint Myint shared about Labelling. Then, Dr Mo Mo Tin, Joint-Secretary-1, presented Traceability Mechanism. Prof. Dr. Mar Mar Kyi presented the consumer exploitation. Then, MCU Patron. Dr. Than Htut gave the presentation about Food, Product, Service Safety. Then, U Maung Maung shared the important role of Consumer Education and Recap session for Day 1 followed.
In TOT Day 2, U Maung Maung explained about the MCU membership orientation and its responsibilities. Dr. Mo Mo Tin shared Consumer Education knowledge to be a smart consumer. Dr. San San Min, MCU Advisor, presented how to write a report based on her experience. Then, MCU Patron Asso. Prof. U Thein Su demonstrated How to Make Effective Presentation. MCU EC member, U Aung Naing Min explained about complaint and MCU complaint and redress mechanism.
In afternoon session, the script of a complaint issue was given to the participants and they were divided into four groups as Government, Public Interest Organization, Individual (Consumer) and Business. The representatives of four groups acted in Role Play from their respective point of view. MCU EC member, Daw Nu Nu Yi, presented “Organizing Training, Workshop and Events”. Then, MCU member as well as freelance consultant, Daw Kay Thi, shared about “Leadership and Management” and Recap session for Day 2 followed.
In TOT Day 3, MCU Secretary U Maung Maung presented about MCU membership and Dos & Don’ts. Daw Nan May Thet Naing explained Consumer Protection Law and Dispute Resolution, followed by Story Telling by MCU EC member U Myo Zin Lwin. Then, Participants discussed their desire to contribute in consumer affairs.
In afternoon session, U Maung Maung introduced Consumer Education Hand Book, organized and published by MCU, to the participants and Prof. Dr. Mar Mar Kyi presented “Trainer’s Skills” that a professional trainer should have. Then, participants who attended TOT practiced the presenting consumer education and Certificates of Completing TOT on Consumer Education were awarded to the participants. Then, MCU Secretary U Maung Maung concluded TOT and gave a closing remark.
